This book aims to equip early years practitioners with the resources and skills required to create a stimulating learning environment and to fully include EAL children into their settings. It provides practical ways to show children and their families that their language and culture are valued and respected, so that they can feel secure and accepted.

There are 49 activities included that focus on different areas of the Expressive Arts and Design goal, and help practitioners to develop children's language and communication skills as they play.

• Singing encourages children, as their language emerges, to join in with repeated refrains and familiar words.
• Listening and music activities help children to distinguish between sounds, communicate non-verbally, and boost their self-confidence.
• Visual art activities, such as 'Mixing rainbows' and making 'Mini-me models' enable all children to express themselves creatively.
• Movement and drama games using props and puppets are fun social activities and help children to develop beyond language barriers.

These creative activities are presented in a very accessible format that staff can dip into and return to as an ongoing resource throughout EYFS amd continuing into KS1.
